ABOUT JOSE ARMENTA

Jose’s Story

Before starting a career in financial services, Jose Armenta served in the Marine Corps as a bomb dog handler. During his service, he was injured by an IED in Afghanistan, and subsequently medically retired in 2013 (along with his bomb dog Zenit). After leaving the military, he struggled to find a new purpose, something that he could believe in as much as he had believed in the mission of the Marine Corps.

He began to find his passion in financial planning by volunteering for local non-profits where he prepared tax returns for low-income families. So, Jose returned to school and earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from Columbia College and a master’s degree in financial and tax planning from San Diego State University. He is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, Chartered Financial Consultant and an Enrolled Agent. Jose’s passion for helping others goes beyond the office, and he is a member of the Financial Planning Association and the Purple Heart Association.

After entering the financial services industry, Jose was discouraged by the type of financial services he saw offered to federal employees. From insurance products that they didn’t need to generic advice focused on trying to “beat the market.” Determined to provide real financial planning that focused on helping them accomplish their life goals, Jose launched Create Your Path, a fee-only comprehensive financial planning firm serving federal employees.

When Jose is not working, he enjoys breaching blanket forts with his three little ones, playing the drums, and taking family trips to Legoland.

“If we never give up, then we’ll never lose. And if we allow it, the worst day of our life may become the most defining day.”
